So Monday was Labour Day in WA (that is Western Australia not Washington). It's a funny thing here with holidays, everyone knows when a long weekend is coming up but more often than not they don't know why. And when in doubt the answer is always, "Must be the Queen's Birthday".
Now I do not know when Queen Elizabeth II's real birthday is but I find it rather odd that every state in Australia celebrates it on completely different days in different months. Presumably other countries of the common wealth celebrate on yet another array of days, the question is what queen are they celebrating?
Well this holiday we took a real day off. We went bush walking in the morning at Wylunga National Park which is only about a ten minute drive from our house. Then we met friends at the beach for Fish and Chips and to watch the sunset. Despite only living a ten minutes drive from the beach this was was our friends first time to watch the sunset over the ocean and only the boys second trip to the beach. They had such a good time!
Samantha wouldn't go near the water and was a bit wingy all day; it turns out she was coming down with a cold. So we've gotten all our errands done and are putting on a pot of soup with the intent of going nowhere till at least tomorrow afternoon.
That's funny ... celebrate the birthday when it's convenient for each state, I guess! Glad you had such a nice day, and hope Samantha feels better soon.
ReplyDeleteSomehow I missed this post saw the pictures in the newer and latter. Sounds like a nice day at the beach, funny to hear you describe the end of summer...as we are approaching spring. So many times kids act unusual and then turn up ill. Hope Samantha gets well soon, and tell her Auntie Sara said she most certainly will receive the dress and hat when Rachel outgrows it!
